My dream was this ....

A cunning plan?

A friend of mine has access to some very useful equipment at the moment, most notably the ability to transfer data from tapes onto CD's. He came to the Savoy gig in London with me a couple of months ago and was absolutely blown out of the water - despite having never heard of them before (he's not the first to be so impressed, and won't be the last). Although both he and I acknowledge that hearing a tape of the band live is not even close to the real thing, in order to improve the quality of copied gigs he has very kindly offered to transfer one of the gigs (or around 18 tracks) onto CD - and that subsequently he'll be quite happy to copy these CDs.

Waiting for a law suit

I haven't at this stage run the idea past the band themselves - although I did ask them if I could distribute tapes of the gigs so I assume they will have no objections. The only thing is this ... I have my own personal preferences for which, of the gigs I have, is the best, but would rather end up with the CD that was going to show off the best of the band. To this end I would be VERY interested to know other peoples views on the material that I have recorded. The current theory is that rather than doing the whole of one gig it might be an idea just to copy certain tracks from each gig to provide the best version - again subject to popular opinion (a kind of 'Best of Savoy: Live!')

Nothing comes for free ... ;)

So, the request is this. If anyone thinks it's a cool idea and would be willing to pay for such a CD (provided the quality was good) - I'd like to hear from you. Anyone who orders tapes from me will have a questionairre sent back asking which they prefer, or whether they have a better quality recording (I am more than happy to use someone-elses tape if the original quality is better than my own). If you'd be prepared to pay maybe £5 for such a CD (I think I can get writable CD's for about this and I'll charge no more than it costs me to buy & copy them) then mail me here and let me know.

Obviously, I'm going to need a fair amount of interest to make it worth my friends time - I don't want to spend a weekend getting it right and running off copies only to find that nobody is interested. So I'll leave this page online for a while, and see what kind of response I get.
